Drone deliveries in Cincinnati

The Workhorse and HorseFly combination.

Workhorse has announced that the HorseFly truck-launched autonomous drone package delivery system is now making “real-life” deliveries to homes in the Cincinnati area.

The deliveries are being made in a pilot programme running in association with the City of Loveland and the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

In a statement issued on Wednesday (16 May), Workhorse said the consumers taking part in the pilot opted in via an app.

A similar system had previously been successfully tested with UPS.

The system uses Horsefly drones that are “fully integrated” with the Workhorse line of electric delivery trucks.

Currently, each package is delivered within the driver’s line of sight and the drone’s progress is monitored by a centralized Horsefly control centre. The consumer can also monitor the progress of their package delivery through their downloaded app and they can opt in to receive a photograph and confirmation of their delivery.
