Rhenus launches groupage freight service to Dubai
Rhenus Project Logistics, has launched the first groupage freight traffic for temperature-controlled goods to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by sea.
The regular bi-monthly service provides customers in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the Benelux countries with a new link to their target markets in Dubai.
Rhenus said that the new consolidation service is primarily designed to be used for temperature sensitive products such as chocolate, baked goods or cheese. Depending on customer requirements, the temperature of the 20 / 40 foot containers can be set anywhere between -25C and +25C.
The reefers will initially be loaded centrally at a refrigerated logistics warehouse in Breda in the Netherlands, not far from the port of Rotterdam. From here, the shipment begins a 19-day voyage at sea to the Arabian Gulf, where they will be received by Rhenus Logistics Gulf at the port of Jebel Ali, before being delivered to the end customer.
Commenting on the service, Enrst Metry, managing director of Rhenus Project Logistics in Switzerland, said: “This new groupage freight service is especially valuable for our clients, as it enables them to avoid the more expensive air freight option by having temperature-controlled transport operations on board ships.”
The new service also provides an additional and bespoke product to Rhenus’ offering to UK customers. UK FMCG businesses now have the options of coordinated direct service to the UAE from Rhenus facilities in Bradford, Cannock and Manchester.
