US investor ups stake in new German parcel shop chain

New German parcel shop chain Paketeria said its planned expansion throughout Germany has been boosted with a further financial investment by a US investment group. Paketeria, which cooperates with GLS and TNT, currently has several branches in the Berlin area but aims to expand to 1,000 franchise outlets across Germany by end-2007.

The US investment group Wilmington Scientific, funded by investor John Moore, has raised its financing of the company, Paketeria said in a statement. The size of the investment and of the US company’s stake in Paketeria was not disclosed. “We see a promising market for the future in the Paketeria franchise concept,” Moore was quoted as saying.

Acquisitions pay dividends for CMM

Acquisition is a word guaranteed to make Yolanda Noble smile. The founder of financial mailing service Corporate Mailing Matters (CMM) completed the takeover in January of the business and assets of direct mail company Pims National and Pims Envelopes, a move that has seen CMM grow its turnover to £30m from £18m.

Noble already has her eye on two other acquisitions that Will help to establish CMM as a leader in the mail communications sector. She has set her sights on growing turnover to £65m in the next three years and possibly seeking a listing on the Alternative Investment Market.

DMA view on … Deregulation of postal services

Every year brings a degree of change on the postal landscape, but perhaps none more so than 2006. Last month saw the UK mail market open to competition; April is likely to see the price of first-class stamps rise from 30p to 32p; and in September Pricing in Proportion (PiP) becomes a reality for consumer and business users. Competition is starting to have an impact for bulk mailers. According to Alex Walsh, head of postal affairs at the DMA and former head of mailing agents and trade associations at Royal Mail, companies are experimenting at the very least with different postal options.

Swiss Post buys document services firm

Swiss Post has bought the specialist document services firm oneReason AG through its subsidiary MailSource. The acquisition is designed to strengthen its special services for postal customers.

Based near Zurich airport, oneReason specialises in digital document management, particularly scanning and archiving. The former Siemens business unit, with annual turnover of some Sfr 4.5 million, will be integrated into the MailSource group.
