Japan Post aims to create 12 model post offices

Japan Post will try to improve itself by creating 12 model post offices across Japan so employees at its 24,000 outlets can learn about cost cutting and better productivity, Japan Post President Masaharu Ikuta said in a recent interview. “We will arrange for each of (the 12 major) regional offices to create a model post office so that (the model of high productivity) can filter down into post offices nationwide,” Ikuta told Kyodo News.

CTT Portugal Sells Stake in Security Transpost Co.

Portuguese post office CTT – Correios de Portugal has sold its 20 pct stake in security and cash transportation company Esegur, to banks Caixa Geral de Depositos (CGD) and Banco Espirito Santo (BES) for a total 6.0 mln euro (USD6.7 mln), it was reported on May 5, 2003. Esegur is now wholly owned by CGD and BES.

India Post largest provider of postal services

India Post is the largest provider of postal services with 1.54 lakh post offices across the country, of which 16,476 are located in the urban areas and 1,38,443 in rural areas. Mail services are provided through 1,38,511 delivery post offices across the country. India Post has introduced Speed Net, which is an online facility to track and trace Speed Post parcels. The service is available in 120 Speed Post Centres across India.

Good response to Jamaica-US postal alliance

The recent alliance forged between the Postal Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) and the United States (US) Postal Service, through its agent, SkyPostal, has received a good response from St Ann residents. “The response has been good, we get a lot of people,” post mistress at the Ocho Rios post office, Jevon Gray, told the Observer. According to Gray, the service — which offers delivery of letters and other documents to the US within three-to-five days — will attract a lot of customers as word spreads of its availability. It has been on-stream in St Ann since last Tuesday.

Nightspeed delivering a top service

Nightspeed, which has a branch on the Acorn Business Park in Nottingham, was named Parcel Carrier of the Year 2003 by its trade body, the Institute of Transport Management. The independently owned company, which has 22 depots throughout the UK, is based in Tipton, West Midlands. Research conducted by the institute looked at the past five years’ winners as well as new arrivals. Nightspeed was earmarked by Institute of Transport Management members as key to their distribution success.
