Hays UK to sell core businesses

Struggling support services group Hays hung a “for sale” sign around the necks of three of its four businesses yesterday, after posting a 23 per cent dive in first-half profits.

In an attempt to get back on track, Hays said its business services, haulage, and even its fledgling mail delivery business will be sold off, leaving the group to concentrate on its recruitment division.

Sense of comfort may return to taunt UK Royal Mail

Royal Mail executives may take some comfort from the expected sale of the mail operation of Hays, one of its few new domestic rivals.

However, most observers expect that the mail business, which is profitable and thought likely to fetch between Pounds 350 million and Pounds 450 million, would provide stiff competition, even if it were placed under new ownership.

Russian Post to make USD400M from new services by 2006

The state-owned Russian Post company plans to receive USD400 million in revenues from new services by 2006, the company’s acting director Igor Syrtsov told a news conference Wednesday.

In 2002 the revenues from these Internet-related services accounted for 3% of the postal service’s total revenues.

UK Royal Mail survey results

Survey results released today by Communication Managers Section of Amicus, the union for managers and professionals in Royal Mail, found that management staff believe that the organisation continues to lack the skills, direction and leadership to cope with the challenges it faces. The Royal Mail is currently awaiting finalisation of postal services regulator Postcomm’s price control proposals and the introduction of competition.

The survey was carried 1600 managers and senior managers across the UK.

Former NZ Post chief executive Elmar Toime has started his new job as executive deputy chairman at Britain’s Royal Mail.

Emirates Post and Deutsche Post sign MOU for enhanced cooperation

Emirates Post and Deutsche Post have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore enhanced business cooperation between the two postal corporations, including expanded scope for the Emirates Post’s international mail transit hub located at Dubai International Airport.

In addition to expanding the scope of the Emirates Post mail transit hub, the two sides agreed to explore the possibilities of Emirates Post using Deutsche Post’s mail hub facilities based in Frankfurt.
