UK Post regulator extends stamp price consultation period

The postal regulator has decided to give more time for consultations on its price control proposals for the Royal Mail, which include plans to increase the price of stamps by 1p. The consultation period had been extended by 11 days to March 21, a move welcomed by consumer watchdog Postwatch.

Specialist catalogue distributor Deya has won a 3 year contract with Ikea to deliver over 3 million catalogues to homes cross the UK, starting wih the 2004 catalogue in August. Deya says many of the deliveries will be in rural areas and difficult to access high-density population areas with many multi-occupied properties.

German logistics association warns of giving too much power to DB and DP

BVL, the German association of logistics companies, has warned of the dangers of increased concentration of large state-owned companies on its market. It says that companies such as Deutsche Bahn (DB), the rail operator, and Deutsche Post (DP), the postal operator, are too prone to dividing up the market among themselves. This threatens the existence of the majority of the 9,400 companies operating in the sector.

Mike Eskew, the chairman and CEO of United Parcel Service, today expressed the company’s support for a healthy and viable U.S. Postal Service, focused on its core mission.

Testifying before the President’s Commission on the U.S. Postal Service, Eskew said: “UPS supports a Postal Service focused on its core letter mail mission that is dedicated to providing high-quality service in the physical delivery of letters, advertising and periodicals.”

Former Dutch Prime Minister Mr. Wim Kok and Mr. René Dahan nominated as members of Supervisory Board TPG

The Supervisory Board of mail, express and logistics company TPG has announced that it intends to appoint former Dutch Prime Minister Mr. Wim Kok (64) and former Exxon Mobil Corporation Executive Mr. René Dahan (61) as new members of the Supervisory Board (SB). In addition, Mr. Victor Halberstadt (63), member of the Supervisory Board since 1998 and at the end of his term, has been nominated for an additional term.
