Deutsche Post Global Mail and DHL Worldwide Express join forces

Deutsche Post Global Mail and DHL Worldwide Express have joined forces to create an international mail service in Australia and New Zealand.

Their new international mail product for corporate accounts will be known as Global Mail Business.

Global Mail Business will be introduced in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, with other markets in the Asia Pacific region and the Middle East to follow shortly.

Royal Mail delivers more home-shopped items than USPS

The US Direct Marketing Association has noted that while the U.S. market is split between the U.S. Postal Service and delivery companies like United Parcel Service, FedEx and Airborne Express, Royal Mail’s hold in Britain is stronger against private competition. The government service delivers letters daily to 27 million addresses across the British Isles. It delivers 30 percent of all domestic home-shopped items. More importantly, Royal Mail fulfills 60 percent of local online orders.

Swiss Post aquires US' Priority Post

The Swiss Post said its international unit SPI has aquired the Washington DC-based Priority Post to strengthen its US position.

The purchase price for Priority Post is a low single-digit figure, it said.

Priority Post is one of the largest non-postal providers of international mailings and specialises in the pre-sorting and processing of bulk mailings.

It is also a partner of the US Postal Service.

Deutsche Post optimistic regarding Trans-o-flex takeover

Deutsche Post, the German postal operator, is optimistic that German and EU antitrust authorities will end their opposition to the company’s integration of the domestic and foreign activities of Trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst, the German-based logistics group. The company intends to acquire Casa di Spedizioni Ascoli, the Italian logistics company, a former subsidiary of Trans-o-flex, within the current month. Deutsche Post had acquired six foreign subsidiaries of Trans-o-flex in 2000, but, as the EU then expressed reservations over the deal, and as the German company was launching its IPO and wished to avoid any conflict, Ascoli was transferred to financial service provider Bayernfinanz.

UK Government forcing more freight off rail and on to the roads

The Government is in jeopardy of forcing even more freight off rail and on to the roads with its latest proposals for Railtrack’s replacement, according to the country’s largest freight operator. EWS, which employs 6,000 people, has told rail regulator Tom Winsor that it is “extremely disturbed” by some of Network Rail’s plans. In a letter to Mr Winsor, EWS says that “the new structure of the industry discriminates against freight operators and rail freight”.

Deutsche Post: a continuous acquisition trail

Deutsche Post is set to go on with its continuous growth strategy with the acquisition of Italian parcel operator Casa di Spedizioni Ascoli. This is not the only deal Deutsche Post has in the pipeline, as the acquisition of the remaining 50% of Securicor Distribution could also follow.
