Fedex Custom Critical CharterAir changes to Air Expedite

FedEx Custom Critical, Inc., North America’s largest time-specific, critical-shipment carrier and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp, is changing the name of its CharterAir division to Air Expedite. The new name reflects the expanded portfolio of expedited air services offered by this division.

“The name change was definitely a customer-focused decision,” said Kevin McClellan, director of Air Expedite. “We want our customers to understand that we offer much more than dedicated charter services. We utilize our surface fleet and our alliances with our sister FedEx operating companies to provide services that simply can’t be found anywhere else.”

Deutsche Post close to Securicor deal

Deutsche Post is close to acquiring the remaining 50 per cent stake in Securicor’s UK parcels distribution business. The German postal operator is seeking to streamline its express, freight and logistics services under one roof and to close remaining gaps in its pan-European delivery network. “We are in the final stages of securing a deal – it is imminent,” said a person close to the talks. Deutsche Post is expected to pay up to €300m (£192m) for the 50 per cent it does not already own in Securicor Distribution.

Postal charges for awkward packages

The Periodical Publishers Association has warned of a bleak outlook for the A3 weekly tabloid magazine market if the Royal Mail goes ahead with plans to charge more to deliver large or oddly shaped items.

The Royal Mail has tabled the idea as part of a consultation process with the magazine industry designed to help the postal service from haemorrhaging over £1m per day. It would mean a 30p 1st class surcharge on larger items.

Deutsche Post to buy Italian parcel service Casa di Spedizioni Ascoli

Deutsche Post, the semi-privatised German postal authority, said Monday it planned to buy the Italian parcel service Casa di Spedizioni Ascoli later this week.

Confirming media reports to that effect, Deutsche Post said in a statement it planned to buy the Italian with effect from Wednesday.

“The acquisition will increase and improve our position in the Italian express delivery market,” the German company said.

Deutsche Post aims to save with sub post-offices

Deutsche Post, the German postal services group, is to offer the operators of around 7,500 sub post-offices new contracts with which it aims to make savings. By introducing the new contracts it is aiming to cut costs.

The post offices involved are smaller sales points, for example in supermarkets, travel agents or lottery sales points, and account for 7,500 of the around 13,000 total number of offices operated by the group.
