Consignia announces first moves in three year renewal plan

Consignia has announced the first stage of its recovery plan involving the restructure of the parcels business, rationalisation of transport operations giving combined cost savings of £460 million. Further management, support service and operational savings are also identified. 15,000 jobs will go, 13,000 through redeployment or redundancy. Consignia will restructure its loss making parcels and express business Parcelforce Worldwide, and make radical changes to its internal logistics and transport networks as the first moves in a three year renewal programme to cut costs by more than £1.2 billion and provide a secure long term foundation for the company and for universal postal services in the UK.

Consignia to pay up to 400 mln pounds redundancy package

Consignia, the renamed Post Office, is preparing to give the most generous mass redundancy package ever offered by the government, the Sunday Times said without citing sources.
The company is setting aside as much as 400 mln pounds to cover thousands of job losses, the paper added.
Allan Leighton, Consignia’s chairman, is tomorrow expected to unveil the long-awaited restructuring of the postal network that will eventually result in 30,000 workers losing their jobs or being transferred to the private sector, the Sunday Times went on.

Deutsche Post must lower postage rate by 0.01 Eur this year

Deutsche Post World Net AG will have to lower its postage rate by 0.01 eur this year, the weekly magazine Der Spiegel reported, in an article to be published tomorrow, without citing sources.
This is much smaller than the 0.06 eur cut called for by Germany’s post and telecommunications regulator RegTP.

US post office to give rate decision

The post office appears headed for a midsummer rate increase – perhaps 3 cents more to mail a letter – after winning near-unanimous agreement from businesses and organizations that usually fight vigorously to prevent higher postal rates. Without the usual opposition, the independent Postal Rate Commission gave speeded-up consideration to the Postal Service’s request for new rates. The commission was issuing its decision Friday.
