Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi wants to go further in revamping the postal savings and insurance operations than is called for under the current reform plan, aiming to draw up new measures by the end of this year.

They will come on top of the 30,000 job losses already planned.
Sources close to Consignia, which is losing £1.5 million a day, believe that at least another 5,000 jobs will go as the company battles for survival. The job cuts will come from reorganised urban post offices and the parcels business.
