The mail distributor CityMail Sweden has unveiled a new digital postal service called g-desk. Targeted at both businesses and private persons, g-desk provides an Internet-based letter-box which a subscriber can access through a password-protected web page.

DHL has around 60% of the Swedish express market, and saw growth tumble from 15% in Q1 to zero in July and August and a 2% drop in September.
The Royal Mail could face legal action after failing to make daily deliveries to thousands of homes around the country. Postwatch has sought legal advice because Consignia is failing in its duty as set out in section 58 of the Postal Services Act 2000.

Prime minister Leone! Jospin said the government would “hold a wide consultation in order to limit the number of movements at night, particularly of air freight… and to that end, will look at how to organise the movement of cargo operations to Vatry”.
ADP marketing development director Claude Elbaz said none of the operators concerned was interested in moving to Vatry, a cargoonly airport some 130km east of Paris. “It is not realistic to move to a place in the middle of nowhere,” he said.
“If they wanted to be based there, they would have set up their operations there. Integrators need access to passenger networks to transfer cargo for destinations not served by their own fleets.”
Deutsche Post said on Monday it would appeal a cartel office order blocking its takeover of express delivery group Trans-o-flex and would retain operational control over the firm until a final ruling on its appeal.

Consignia today announced a half year operating loss of £100 million before exceptional items, compared to a restated loss of £20 million for the same period a year ago. After accounting for exceptional items, the post-tax loss for the half year is £281 million, compared with a £113 million loss (restated) for the previous half year.
