Regulator licenses Deya to beat postal strikes

THE POSTAL regulator Postcomm has licensed a private company, Deya, to deliver essential mail in the event that postal workers go on strike.
This is the first time the regulator has given the go-ahead for a rival operator to deliver letters specifically in the event of industrial action at the Royal Mail.

Japanese Posts minister to seek compromise on liberalizing post service

Posts minister Toranosuke Katayama said Tuesday he will try to seek a compromise by the end of the year over the controversial issue of whether to liberalize the state-run postal services sector.
A study panel at the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications will soon compile an interim report that is expected to only ask for partial liberalization of postal services when a new public corporation takes over as planned in 2003.

Postwatch & public's reaction to abolition of 2nd delivery

Most of the country couldn’t care less about the news that the Royal Mail is thinking of abolishing its second daily delivery, and charging extra to businesses that want their letters and parcels delivered before 9.30am. Even Postwatch, the official watchdog, has welcomed the announcement, saying that it is good that Consignia is looking at all the options.
