Royal Mail arm to offer direct response advice

Royal Mail is to launch a consultancy service to provide advertisers
with advice on how to use direct response media as part of a brand’s
marketing mix. The service, to be unveiled next month, forms part of the
Consignia-owned company’s attempts to woo advertisers and their
agencies by offering services beyond its traditional mail delivery

Argentina: The post office sector is affected by recession

CNC (Comision Nacional de Comunicaciones) is working on the changes of the
regulation for the postal sector after consultation with the Government and
private companies about the original text. Some aspects of the original text
have been modified. The recession in Argentina has affected the post offices
activities, which includes 80% of corporate postage and 20% of ‘occasional
postage’.

£2.35m monitoring levy may add to An Post's financial woes

An Post faces a (pounds) 2.35 million (E2.98 million) levy to have
its postal business monitored by the telecommunications regulator
this year and next. The charge sought by the Director of Telecommunications Regulation,
Ms Etain Doyle, will increase financial pressure on the State
company, whose post office network is expected to lose (pounds) 1

Korea Post Builds Mobile Mail Service System

Korea Post (KP), the postal service arm of the Ministry of Information and Communication, said yesterday it will build a mobile mail service system by 2004 on a gradual basis. Under the plan, the government will supply personal digital assistants for around 14,000 mailpersons over the next three years,
said KP official Kwon Moon-hong. The government’s decision reflected growing fears about the proliferation of the Internet.

The future of postal deliveries (Austria)

The supervisory board of Osterreichische Post AG, the Austrian postal service operator, decides today (07/08/01) upon the reduction of the company’s post office network. According to rumours, the management board will propose the closure of 712 out of a total of 2,300 post offices, with the cutting of around 20 per cent of a current 31,000 jobs by 2004 (i.e. around 6,000 job losses).
