DHL wins the 'choice of the year' contest in Belarus

DHL has become a winner in the ‘2007 No. 1 Worldwide Express Delivery Service’ category in the international ‘Choice of the Year’ contest, which took place in early April in the Republic of Belarus.

The contest’s main objective is to determine the highest quality products and services in the Belarus market. The status of the event as a worldwide competition allows for both international and local brands to run for prizes in the same contest.

The ‘Choice of the Year’ contest held in Belarus is distinct for its unique assessment method in determining winners. To ensure that objective results are obtained, the steering committee conducts an all-round evaluation of all products and services in the market (regardless of whether the companies who market these products and services participate in the contest or not). This is followed by an in-depth market survey, which assigns a general score to the company, with the scores allocated by consumers (taken from a direct survey of up to 1500 respondents) comprising 40 pct of the total. 30 pct of the general score is made up of expert opinion, while the remaining 30 pct is taken from the assessment of the advertising strategy of each competing company and the opinions of the jury and steering committee.

The annual review and validation of the study results of the ‘Choice of the Year’ competition is performed by the global auditing firm Deloitte.

DHL has the USA Covered

The 2008 London Book Fair will see the official launch of DHL’s unique distribution service, Bookspeed. The service, aimed at publishers and book sellers, will provide the marketplace with an innovative consolidation service for the distribution of printed material to the United States.

DHL recognises that production and distribution process efficiencies are becoming increasingly important within the publishing industry. The introduction of Bookspeed allows customers to send any volume of printed material – going to multiple businesses or domestic recipients anywhere in the United States from the UK – as a single shipment, irrespective of volume.

Mark Siviter, CEO of DHL Global Mail UK, commented: “As a global leader in the field of distribution and logistics services, we have used our scale to negotiate the most competitive costs in the market. This means we can offer our customers a unique and flexible solution to their shipping needs to the USA. This service offers both service flexibility and real cost benefits to customers – improving their competitiveness through a more efficient service coordinated by DHL.”

The progress of Itella Logistics in Estonia’s consumer parcel markets continues

Itella is continuing its rapid advances in the Estonian consumer parcel markets and launching, in addition to the automatic parcel terminal pilot project, the distribution of consumer parcels in three R-Kiosks in Estonia. In the first phase, parcels will be delivered in the R-Kiosks of the Nurmenuku Centre (Õismägi), the Magistrali Centre (Mustamägi), and the Smuuli Neste in Tallinn (Lasnamägi).

“The co-operation about to be launched with the R-Kiosks supports our objectives of establishing our own extensive distribution network for consumer parcels in Estonian markets. The R-Kiosks and the automated parcel terminals that we introduced in March offer consumers the possibility to select the place for parcel pickup that is most convenient for them. The R-Kiosk network is extensive, and these outlets are well suited to parcel delivery,” explains Aku Happo, Director of Express Business Line.

During the trial period, Estonian consumers can receive products ordered through Anttila.ee by visiting a nearby R-Kiosk instead of the local post office. The arrival of a parcel will be announced with a text message. In connection with picking up their parcels, end users will be requested to provide feedback for further development of the service concept.

The John K Philips Group joins PalletFORCE to build success on success

The John K Philips Group, a St. Helens based Distribution & Warehousing Company, has joined PalletFORCE, one of the country’s leading palletised distribution networks, in the long-term interests of the company and its customers.

The Group was founded by John Philips in 1974 and, from humble beginnings driving his own vehicle, he has built the business into a successful operation running a large modern fleet of vehicles. “I have always worked under the ethos of – Continuous Improvement – and joining the Membership of the PalletFORCE Network is a natural progression in this process and one that I and all the Staff look forward to working within,” states John Philips. “PalletFORCE shares our values and commitment offering quality of service, customer focus and professionalism.”

With a fleet of vehicles ranging from 1.2 Tonne sprinters, 18 & 26 Tonne rigids with tail lifts to 44 Tonne tractors, a 130,000 Sq. Ft. COMAH registered warehouse operating 24/7, and the latest bespoke computerised computer systems to control both vehicles and warehousing, the John K Philips Group is big enough to cope and small enough to care.

The John Philips Group has now taken on responsibility for the WN and WA (less WA4 to WA9) postcodes.

DHL opens its EEMEA premises in Bahrain

DHL officially opened its Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA) premises in Bahrain.

The move follows an extensive expansion of the sales team and the centralisation of resources in Bahrain to allow the company to be closer to its markets and enhance customer response times.

A team of specialists has relocated to Bahrain over the past year from across the DHL international network. Operations at the new office began on March 1 and the facility is now fully functional with a total of 32 staff.

“It is a great pleasure to have our sales and commercial teams for Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa centralised in Bahrain,” said Sales Director David Wilson.

“As the Middle East is the biggest area in our region, and Bahrain has held a strategic position at the centre of our business in the Middle East for 30 years, it is a natural move to consolidate operations here.

“With an excellent transport infrastructure and a high-quality living environment, this move is popular with all.”

He said EEMEA was one of the fastest growing regions for DHL, which had a 40 per cent market share.
