Technical Supremacy sets ByBoxes apart

ByBox has launched a new generation of electronic postal lockers that are not only available in a variety of sizes and configurations to meet every requirement; but also packed with technical innovation to make them extremely flexible, user-friendly and secure.

The result is a reliable, robust and readily accessible system that is proven to provide postal operators and their customers with new levels of service, and swift delivery and collection facilities that meet the changing needs of the postal market.

Equally suitable for internal and external use, each locker bank is flexible and can be easily changed by adding or removing a column of locker doors. Built with tough, environmentally resistant material and coated in vandalism resistant paint, they operate over a large temperature range and at up to 93 pct humidity. To protect customers from the elements, external locker banks can be fitted with a weatherproof canopy.

Lockers are available in several standard dimensions that handle everything from large parcels to letters, and sizes can be customised if required. They can also be supplied in a variety of colours and branded to aid customer identification.

A number of security features are factored into the locker bank design. They include sensors that detect any attempted break-ins, and software that detects tampering and sounds an alarm after several aborted attempts.

At the same time, user security data may be monitored in a number of different ways, using signature capture, web camera and biometrics techniques such as fingerprint recognition.

Further Acquisition in Croatia: Austrian Post purchases ST Media

Another important expansion step taken on the Croatian unaddressed mail market
Closing follows within the next weeks

At the beginning of 2007, Austrian Post acquired Weber Escal, the leader in Croatia’s unaddressed mail market. Austrian Post now announces the acquisition of ST Media, the number two in this market segment.

ST Media has more than 10 years of experience operating in the field of delivering unaddressed advertising mail in Croatia. This year, the company will distribute more than 100 million unaddressed advertising mail items, achieving revenues surpassing EUR 2 million, which represents a market share of about 25 % in Croatia.

The Croatian market for unaddressed mail is in a stage of infancy, and thus features high growth rates. Subsequently, revenue growth at Weber Escal has exceeded a level of 50% during the current business year alone. “With the acquisition of ST media, Austrian Post is in a position to effectively deal with the rapid growth in Croatia, and to offer our customers even better services“, says Walter Hitziger, Member of the Management Board with responsibility for the Mail Division.

This year, ST Media and Weber Escal together employ a delivery staff of 600 people, and will distribute close to 300 million direct mail items. The two companies account for about three-quarters of the total Croatian market for unaddressed advertising mail. The close cooperation of the two companies will enable Austrian Post to achieve greater cost efficiency and exploit synergies in the future, particularly in the delivery of the mail items.

Business deserts Post Office in the UK

Small businesses are ready to desert Royal Mail and switch to private sector delivery rivals after counting the cost of the damaging postal dispute, a survey shows.

More than half the small companies surveyed for the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), say they are more likely to use alternative services to reduce the risk of further disruption to their business.

Rival mail services, the internet or a personal limited service for key customers are among the options they are exploring.

Royal Mail is braced for a backlash from dissatisfied customers, but is banking on higher rates charged by rivals to prove a deterrent for business customers to switch. The weekend BCC poll, based on replies from 183 members, showed 62pc of them have already started using alternative services to send and settle invoices, while 88pc have seen their businesses suffer from cash-flow problems and lost orders and other costs involved in meeting the cost of the strike.

Natalie Evans, head of policy at BCC, said the survey results hammered home the damage to Royal Mail and the loss of confidence among customers. “It will not be easy for Royal Mail to regain their confidence,” she said.

Royal Mail has seen business shrink even before the strike with the loss of 40pc of its bulk-mail business. Rivals TNT, Business Post and Deutsche Post have been working flat out during the strike to ensure they keep the new business.
