Polish Postal Bank Pocztowy signs agreement for Market Risk and Asset Liability Management with IRIS

Bank Pocztowy, a subsidiary of the State savings bank PKO BP, has signed for riskpro Market Risk and ALM. The scope of the project will include Basel II Standard approach in a later stage.

The Postal bank, which caters to small, village clients providing simple banking products, chose riskpro over other competitors because of the ease of use and flexibility of the software. “We required a tool that could help us to efficiently solve our issues in a cost efficient manner, and we didn’t want to spend a long time learning to program complex scenarios. riskpro has fulfilled our expectations in this and many more aspects” said Katarzyna Dresler, project lead of the riskpro implementation.

riskpro is currently being implemented at the bank by IRIS’ local partner in Poland, Bazy i Systemy Bankoe. In a second phase of the project Bank Pocztowy will also use riskpro to address the bank’s needs in the areas of IFRS and Impairment.

“It is an honor for us to serve Polish Post Bank besides the German Post Bank and the earlier Austrian Post Bank. Once again riskpro’s qualities for analysis and simulation of large retail operations are confirmed”, expressed Andreas Jaek, Head of IRIS Sales & Marketing.

PIN opens first Post Shop in Germany

PIN Group German private mail operator PIN Group will open its first Post Shop in a regional bank to test whether to develop a nationwide network of retail outlets. This would be Germany’s third postal network behind Deutsche Post and the planned opening of 13,000 Hermes parcel shops to TNT Post.
In a pilot project, PIN Mail will offer postal services in the savings bank of Siegen in North Rhine-Westphalia from 1 September 2007. Further Post Shops will follow in other savings banks in the north-west German state over the following few weeks. If the tests are successful, the cooperation will be extended to other savings banks across Germany.
The Post Shops will sell PIN Mail stamps and accept items for delivery through PIN Mail. The new partnership will also be represented in a joint stamp to be issued on 1 September 2007.
The pilot project is a strategically important step for PIN to make its services available to consumers and small businesses. So far, it has focused on large companies and organizations with regular mail volumes. The move is similar to that of TNT Post which will start to market its services through the 13,000 Hermes Parcel Shops in Germany from January 2008.
PIN Group, now majority-owned by the Axel Springer publishing group, is aiming to increase revenues from EUR 168 million last year to some EUR 350 million this year. Earlier this month, it was announced that Axel Springer’s logistics chief Karsten Böhrs would join the company’s board as COO with responsibility for logistics and sales, and Julian Deutz, CFO for Springer’s magazines division, would become CFO.

Mediaservis: leading challenger to Czech Post

With the postal service market set to open up, Mediaservis is positioning itself to wrap up a bigger chunk of the mail delivery market. And more than just junk mail is at stake.

The Czech postal services market is the most open and developed within the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, yet rivals of traditional public operators are awaiting full liberalization of the European Union postal market, says Jaroslav Aujezdský, CEO of Mediaservis, an alternative competitor to domestic state-run post office Èeská pošta (ÈP).

Mediaservis is closely monitoring the liberalization process and will be prepared to meet all the conditions when the market is fully liberalized, and be able to provide delivery of mail under 50 grams, or under Kè 18 (EUR 0.65) in the Czech Republic, Aujezdský said.

Currently, Mediaservis has about a 20 percent market share of approximately 1 billion addressed mail items including letters, direct mail, newspapers and magazines sent every year. “We want to enter the segment of delivery of letters under 50 grams, which represents about 65 percent of all the letters that we cannot deliver at the moment although we are capable of doing it,” Aujezdský said. The 65 percent represents mainly the business-to-business (B2B) and the business-to-customer (B2C) market. Some 90 percent of European mail is from businesses, and this is where most new rivals are likely to target new lower-priced services, according to the European
Commission (EC).

Mediaservis was established in 1999 with the aim of providing a morning delivery service mainly for publishing houses. At that time the only operator ÈP offered late morning delivery of periodicals on weekdays, and no service on Saturdays.

FedEx delivers to more than 45,000 Emirates Skywards members

FedEx Express recently transported more than 45,000 shipments across the world to members of Skywards, Emirates Airlines’ award-winning Customer Loyalty program.

The express delivery giant’s unmatched global transportation network, spanning more than 220 countries and territories, made the dispatch of the Skywards’ information packs and gift items simple.

‘FedEx has been managing the transportation of Skywards’ premium member gifts for the past six years. We have a dedicated team of couriers and service agents who were located within Emirates facility during the peak shipping period to ensure that the 45,000 shipments were processed accurately and on time,’ said Hamdi Osman, senior vice president, FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

The Skywards program allows members to earn Skywards Miles that can be redeemed for a wide range of rewards. Members receive gifts and updated information brochures outlining promotions, members’ current mileage status, and programme details for the rest of the year.

A key to the success of the peak shipping period is Skyward’s use of FedEx Ship Manager. This automated shipping solution allows for the import of large external address databases which can then be easily transferred to FedEx shipping documents. This software is available to all FedEx customers, whether they ship just 1 shipment a year or up to 10,000 per day.
