'YES' strike vote in Post Office

Members of the Communication Workers Union have voted overwhelmingly to support an executive council recommendation to take strike action over Royal Mail pay. 145,000 ballot papers were sent out to members and the results were as follows. here was a 65 per cent return 63 per cent voted in favour of taking industrial action 37 per cent voted against.

Tibbett & Britten and DTS Logistics win contracts with George at Asda

Increased demand has led George at Asda, the clothing retailer, to open two new distribution centres, in Oldham and Essex, to be managed separately by Tibbett & Britten and DTS Logistics. The new warehouses will allow an extra 600,000 units per week to be moved. Tibbett & Britten will handle 50% of the retailer’s distribution, while George and DTS Logistics will each deal with 25%.

Oman is opening its doors for foreign investment through several laws including 100 per cent ownership of companies by foreigners, a senior Omani government official said. The country also plans to privatise several service sectors, including postal services.

Legal challenge over letter costs for Deutsche Post

Deutsche Post AG (G.DPW) faced Wednesday the threat of a legal dispute with a leading German industry group seeking repayments for letter costs. The German Association of Wholesale and Export Traders said it would demand repayments from Deutsche Post in a forthcoming complaint over monopoly letter prices to the state court of Berlin.

Deutsche Post's New Integration, Cost Savings Program

Deutsche Post AG (G.DPW) confirmed Wednesday that it has launched a cost-cutting program, but the partially privatized mail group denied it is planning a reorganization. Earlier Wednesday, daily newspaper Die Welt said Deutsche Post had begun a cost-cutting program that could lead to a broad restructuring of the group, including the creation of a holding company.

Australian rural mail delivery under threat

SOME rural mail deliveries could be disrupted if Australia Post changes force contractors to withdraw their service.
Australia Post is requiring people renewing mail delivery contracts to become incorporated, at a cost of up to $1500, before their tenders will be considered.
