Japan to establish a solid foundation for privatizing postal services

The current Diet session will get down to details on formation of a Japan Postal Corp., which would take over postal services, postal savings and postal insurance programs beginning in April 2003. Discussion will focus on the proposals outlined in an interim report prepared at the end of last year by advisers to the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications.

N BROWN GROUP – CHRISTMAS TRADING UPDATE re Fulfilment Division

Zendor, our fulfilment and consultancy division, has moved into profit in the
second half, reversing its earlier first half losses, and will show a small full
year profit. One of Zendor’s recently acquired clients, Toys R Us, have reported
higher than expected sales volumes being fulfilled in the run up to Christmas.
Zendor has also been working with a number of other companies in a consultancy
capacity, including Safeway and Arcadia and continues to provide fulfilment
services for a number of high street retailers.

Eunite, the interactive part of the fulfilment division has more than halved the
level of first half losses by alignment of its business to current levels of
market activity.

Strike ballot after UK post talks fail

A ballot of 140,000 postmen and women will go ahead on Wednesday after talks aimed at averting a national strike ended without agreement.
The Communication Workers Union said no progress was made at a meeting with managers from postal group Consignia, held under the chairmanship of the conciliation service Acas on Tuesday.

DHL to Invest $10M in Gulf

Express courier company DHL International said on Wednesday it would invest $10 million in Gulf Arab states this year to enhance its operations. DHL Area Director Philip Couchman said the firm would invest $4 million in Saudi Arabia while the rest would be invested in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
