Geodis driving through the pain barrier

Geodis UK’s Glasgow facility earlier this month picked up a new contract to provide locally based first aid equipment supplier Wallace Cameron with most of its distribution and logistics needs.
Glasgow, one of six multiuser sites operated by Geodis across the country, was extended in April when an air and sea freight operation launched there. And it is already pleasingly full, reports sales director Tony d’Arcy.

DHL Airways sale won't close today

The sale of DHL Airways to an investor group led by the carrier’s chief executive will not close today as the airline had previously announced. Ray Lutz, vice president for business development and strategic planning at the carrier, said, “We’re doing everything we can to make it happen. A lot of stuff has to be done, and a lot of people are working very diligently.” Lutz declined to forecast when the sale will be completed, saying, “I don’t have a timetable for you.”

TNT Post Group (TNT) recently split off its direct mail logistics business to a new company managed by its affiliate. G3 Worldwide Mail Logistics (Thailand) Co Ltd (G3) was formally established on April 1 with 52 employees to provide direct mail and direct marketing logistics services, such as international mail distribution, response management service, mail-room management and call-centre service, under the Spring brand name.

Emirates Post and Somal Post sign agreement to establish money transfer and mail services

Emirates Post and Somal Post, the national postal corporation of Somalia, have signed an agreement to handle money transfer, letters and parcels between the UAE and Somalia. The new postal services between the two countries, which will be available from July 1, 2003, at 72 post offices of Emirates Post, will meet the requirements of the 75,000 Somalis residing in the UAE.

Minister Opens An Post Cork Mail Centre

An Posts new EUR 35 million automated mail sorting centre at Little Island in Cork was officially opened today by the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources Mr Dermot Ahern TD. Up to 450,000 items of mail for Cork city and county, Kerry, Limerick, Clare and Waterford will be processed daily by the most modern available technology in the custom built, 100,000 square foot premises. A total of 56 full-time and 182 part-time staff will be employed at the plant during the initial phase rising then to 98 full time and 134 part time.

Postcomm reviews Postcode Address File Code of Practice

Postcomm today published for consultation its first review of the Code of Practice that it introduced last year on changes to the Postcode Address File (PAF) – the list of the postal addresses of all 27 million households throughout the UK, which is maintained by Royal Mail. This Code of Practice for the first time set out rules that, among other things, enabled people to ask Royal Mail to make changes to parts of their postal address.
