Danish Govt Prepares To Reduce Stake In Post Danmark

The Danish Ministry of Transport said Friday it is going ahead with preparations to reduce the state’s 100% holding in the national postal services Post Danmark A/S. This is following a report commissioned by the government from the investment bank Rothschild. Denmark’s right-wing minority government has been mulling a selldown for some time but it has yet to get broad parliamentary backing to sell an expected 25% stake in the postal services.

Deutsche Post defends closure of post offices

The management of Deutsche Post, Germany’s postal service operator, has defended cost reduction measures such as the planned closure of up to 800 post offices this year. Chairman Klaus Zumwinkel announced at the annual general meeting that the company would still comply fully with its postal obligations.

Deregulation plan 'Half Baked' says TNT director

Plans to deal with the deregulation of Royal Mail were yesterday described as ‘half baked’ by the director of quality for express parcel delivery service, TNT.

At a conference organised by Junior Chamber International, Chris Fowkes claimed the idea of working alongside Royal Mail who would then complete the ‘final mile’ of delivery would be untenable.

He said TNT was ‘holding back’ until it could be guaranteed a share of the market of ‘between 25 and 50 per cent’.

UK Royal Mail invests in new sorting office technology

Royal Mail is close to completing a GBP130 mil project to implement its Address Interpretation technology in all of its UK sorting office, with 63 out of 70 sorting offices already equipped with the technology. Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor for the project, with a five-year contract from Royal Mail.

Royal Mail has confirmed the appointment of Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and its sister Omnicom shops Proximity and Wolff Olins to handle its communications.

The above-the- line work is worth pounds 20 million.

Singapore's IDA rejects SingPost's postal rate hike proposal

The InfoComm Development Authority said it has rejected the proposal of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd unit Singapore Post to raise domestic postage rates for mail weighing 20 and 40 grams.

“This decision was arrived at after a detailed review of SingPost’s proposal and an audit of SingPost’s figures,” IDA said.
