UK pallet network Palletforce has launched a nightly direct link from its UK hub in Lichfield to Belgian member Gillemot, based inKampenhout. The link, operated by Redhead International, provides for a 48 hour door-to-door service throughout Belgium and the Netherlands.

Patrick Waldron has been named CEO of the newly formed joint venture between The Bank of Ireland Group and the UK’s Post Office Ltd, part of the Royal Mail Group. The operation expects to offer personal loans, savings accounts, credit cards, personal insurance and mortgages.

UK Royal Mail newspaper service to be axed

The Royal Mail has confirmed plans to scrap a service allowing newspapers to be sent first-class for the price of second-class postage.

It would disappear if the Royal Mail goes ahead with its plans to scrap the service which it says is no longer commercially viable and which costs it £7m a year.

JP Morgan boosts Greek business with post savings bank mandate

JP Morgan has strengthened its Greek business by winning the mandate to privatise the country’s Post Savings Bank, a year after hiring Harry Adamopoulos to run its investment banking business there. Nikos Christodoulakis, the Greek Finance Minister, was reported to have said that between 35% and 40% of Post Savings Bank will be sold in an international tender. Post Savings Bank is eventually expected to list on the Athens stock exchange.

UK Royal Mail says size matters in cost of sending parcels

The price of sending bulky items though the post is set to soar under radical plans being hatched by Royal Mail.

If the proposals are given the go-ahead then the price of sending an A4-sized envelope first class will rise from 28p to 46p, in a move that will anger many businesses.

Royal Mail wants to scrap the 150-year-old system of weighing parcels to determine the price of postage and replace it with a sized-based system.

Irish An Post recognises need to improve mail service

An Post has said it realises the country’s postal service needs to be significantly improved.

New figures released by the Communications regulator reveal a quarter of all mail An Post handles arrives late.

ComReg says there has been some improvement in the service, but that An Post is failing to meet its targets of delivering 94% of mail on time.

Emirates Post offers related services along with direct mailing

Emirates Post has announced that it would provide customers with optional services including the use of a large and exclusive database and printing and outsourcing services along with the recently launched Direct Mailing Service (DMS).

According to Sawsan Al Diwani, Assistant Director General, Development and Marketing Affairs of Emirates Post, the DMS was designed to help promote customers’ products and services by ensuring a responsive audience.
