UK Royal Mail plans court challenge over strikes

Royal Mail’s lawyers are gathering evidence to launch a court challenge against the postal union blamed for encouraging unofficial walkouts across the country.

Following pressure from business, which is worried about the wider impact of the nine-day dispute, company managers received positive legal advice on the strength of their case.

The company has decided to wait before pulling together witness statements and documents, which allegedly prove the secret involvement of union militants. Court action would be one of the most significant tests of Thatcherite union legislation since the Royal Mail successfully challenged in court the Communication Workers Union’s right to hold strikes without a ballot in 1990.

DHL launches courier service for students in India

DHL Express has launched a new courier service, University Express, to serve Indian students applying for higher studies overseas. DHL has provided 50 percent discount on each application sent overseas and has come up with the facility of picking up the documents from homes, hostels or colleges free of cost. India has the distinction of having the second highest number of students studying abroad with about 20,000 students applying every year for qualifying exams like Graduate Record Examination, Graduate Management Aptitude Test and SAT.

Tesco switches contract as UK postal strike bites

Supermarket giant Tesco have switched a delivery contract from the Royal Mail because of the worsening unofficial dispute which is crippling postal services across many parts of the UK.

Meanwhile private firms holding licences to deliver a limited amount of bulk mail were given permission to carry any mail they wanted because of the dispute.

Delivery of books ordered from Tesco online was given to private firm Parcelnet in a big blow to the postal organisation as it struggles to cope with the effects of wildcat strikes.
