2006 good for Italy Poste Italiane listing – Chairman

According to Vittorio Mincato, chairman of Italy’s state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane, 2006 is likely to be a good year for Poste Italine’s listing on the Italian stock exchange, it was reported on June 28, 2005. Mincato speaking at a meeting in Vicenza, northern Italy. Minacto said that he was working on a reorganisation in the company, which would lead to its listing, but not in the near future.

Deutsche Post confirms to open up to 300 rural branches starting in Sept

Deutsche Post AG confirmed a press report that it will open up to 300 small branches in the rural areas of Germany from September this year onwards. With the move, Deutsche Post wants to test to what extent it can offer financially viable basic postal services even after it loses its stamp monopoly in late 2007, a spokesman for the company said, confirming an earlier report in Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.

Among the regular clients of the Hub are GATS UK, British Royal Mail and the UK and US offices of Deutsche Post. Swiss Post and Kuwait Post were the two major clients that joined the hub during 2005, in addition to several other postal organizations. The Dubai Airport Mail Transit Hub of Emirates Post consolidated its position as the preferred regional mail distribution centre by handling 1,062,720 kg of international mail during 2004, against 984,000 kg in 2003. The Dubai Airport Mail Transit Hub was established in 2001 to serve as the regional mail hub for mail bound for the GCC, the rest of the Middle East, North and East Africa, the Far East and Indian Subcontinent.

Italy Poste Italiane issues 1.2 mln prepaid cards

The number of prepaid credit cards, issued by Italy’s state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane, has reached 1.2 million, the company CEO, Massimo Sarmi, said on June 27, 2005. The one millionth Poste Italiane Postepay card was handed to its owner at a special ceremony in March 2005. Between 60 pct and 70 pct of the Postepay card users are young people, Sarmi said.

New Deutsche Post retail outlet format

Come September 2005, Deutsche Post will be testing a new retail outlet format at some 300 locations. Working together with retail partners, the Company will set up outlets carrying a streamlined basic postal product line. In doing so, Deutsche Post is putting a sales format to the test which, with an eye to the exclusive license set to expire at the end of 2007, should be financially viable and at the same time adapted to significantly changed customer behavior. If Deutsche Post customers respond favorably, the intention is to extend the pilot project starting in the spring of 2006. Basic services such as postage stamps, parcel-post stamps and Packsets will be offered, but not special services with low demand (e.g. COD, issuing warehoused items) and banking transactions.

Small businesses boost UPS Mexico Operations

Demand from small and medium-sized companies is helping shipping giant United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) post double-digit sales growth in Mexico, company officials said Monday. During the first quarter, UPS’ export business sales from Mexico, the company’s biggest Latin American market, grew by 30% versus the like-2004 quarter, building on a 60% annual expansion last year. “We have positioned the product with companies that used to have their own trucks,” Luis Arriaga, head of UPS Mexico, said in an interview. UPS has also gained customers from other transport companies, he added. “The product is actually tailor-made for any type of need that you might have,” Arriaga said, listing party favors like pinatas, electronics and automotive parts as examples of recent shipments out of Mexico.
