DHL begins mid east fleet evaluation to meet growing demand

DHLs plans for the region include new air destinations, improved and new build facilities at regional airports and a total upgrade of DHL’s Middle East air-road network, fleet and services. The news comes as DHL Middle East revealed that in the past 18 months, its regional aircraft fleet has doubled in size from 7 to 14 aircraft. “The review will dovetail with our future needs and plans, which includes a US $10 million infrastructure investment phase currently under way,” said David Wild, General Manager, DHL UAE.

DHL plans to boost Bahrain operations

DHL intends to carry out a multi-million dinar investment in the region and expand its hub in Bahrain for new operations to Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to Middle East area director, Philip Couchman, DHL’s air fleet has been doubled from seven to fourteen in one year, and the company’s road fleet has also expanded from seven trailers last year to 22 this year, and will double to 44 next year.

Afghanistan, Tajikistan Posts Cooperate

A protocol on cooperation in post and telecommunications was signed between the communications ministries of Afghanistan and Tajikistan in Kabul today. The Bakhtar Information Agency reports that in accordance with this protocol, the Postal Department of Tajikistan will train a number of personnel of the Postal Department of the Ministry of Communications [of Afghanistan] and will establish postal links between the Central Asian countries, Iran and Pakistan via Afghanistan.
