Kuehne & Nagel gains in 1Q

Kuehne & Nagel International AG, the Swiss-based forwarding and logistics company, showed improved first-quarter earnings and revenue, despite the economic slowdown in North America. The company said its gross profit increased 10.2% in the first three months of the year to 373 million Swiss francs (about $220 million). Revenue jumped 12.2% in the period to about $1.2 billion.

Panalpina eyeing acquisitions, alliances

Panalpina Group saw gross revenue rise by more than 26% in 2000 to 6.9 billion Swiss francs (about $4 billion), while its net income increased by the same percentage, to about $55 million. Panalpina chief executive Bruno Sidler said they favored an “organic growth” expansion strategy instead of the acquisition strategy of one of their main competitors, Danzas AG. But Fischer said he “would not exclude the possibility of a carefully selected acquisition or alliance to improve our market position”

Atlas Air becomes a minority investor in new UK cargo airline

Atlas Air Inc has become a minority investor in a new UK-based cargo airline known as Global Supply Systems Limited. The new cargo carrier has been set up in conjunction with entrepreneur John Porter. The company will initially provide aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance leases of Boeing 747 freighter aircraft to airlines in the UK and will begin operations out of London’s Stanstead Airport.
