DHL Danzas to expand Indonesian market

DHL Danzas Air and Ocean (DHL Danzas), the global freight provider and logistics arm of DHL, plans to set up more facilities in Indonesia by the end of the year to gain from the nation’s improving economy and increased trade within Southeast Asia. “Indonesia is a very interesting market. We would like to take full advantage of the Indonesian market,” DHL Danzas Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer Peter Lansiedel told The Jakarta Post and Bisnis Indonesia on Monday. DHL Danzas’ core business is in freight and container shipments above 250 kilograms. Along with DHL Worldwide Express, DHL Danzas is part of the DHL group, which is now fully owned by Deutsche Post World Net. Lansiedel said the company planned to open four new offices and logistics centers for air and ocean freight by the end of this year, but he declined to provide details on the location and estimated investment for the new facilities, DHL Danzas claims to have invested USD2.1 million in Indonesia over the past four years.

FedEx’s Incheon run to boost Asia network

FedEx Express will reveal plans today for a thrice weekly non-stop service between Hong Kong and Incheon, South Korea, in a move that will bolster both its Hong Kong and inter-Asia connectivity.

Peter Yin, FedEx Express regional vp for South Pacific, confirmed that the services, using Boeing MD-11 freighters with a 90-tonne payload, would be inaugurated soon.

He said the flights would be the first direct link between Hong Kong and Seoul. Previous cargo services were handled through FedEx’s major Asian hub at Clark airbase in the Philippines.

FedEx seeks to add more flights to China

FedEx Corp. said Friday it has applied to add 18 new weekly cargo flights to China under a new Sino-US aviation agreement, including six to a new destination, Qingdao, a city of East China’s Shandong Province. FedEx now operates 11 flights a week between the United States and the Chinese cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, but it wants to more than double its operations to the mainland, Asia Pacific President David L. Cunningham said.

DHL launches direct service to Vietnam

DHL began flying its first transport aircraft into Vietnam last Friday tripling its cargo capacity in the country and increasing its daily service hours to customers.

A Boeing 737 will fly four times a week, linking Vietnam, especially Ho Chi Minh City, directly with DHL’s regional hub in Bangkok.This will increase the company’s carrying capacity into and out of Vietnam from the earlier four tonnes to 13.5 tonnes and push back its closing time from 1pm to 5pm.

“We have invested heavily to bring this aircraft into Vietnamese skies and are extremely confident of success because of Vietnam’s booming economy,” said Stephen Fenwick, South Asian and Indochina’s Area Director for DHL Express.
