DHL Airways adds new flight to Bahrain International Airport

A DHL Airways registered DC8 aircraft made its inaugural flight into the Kingdom of Bahrain when it landed on a at Bahrain International Airport last week. The new DHL Airways weekly service upgrades the total number of Intercontinental freighters into Bahrain from seven to eight per week.

This additional service increases DHL’s available capacity both into and out of the Middle East by a further 20 percent, offering connections to DHL’s major European hub in Brussels and the Global Network.

Panalpina to acquire share of Luxair

Panalpina, a provider of airfreight services, is engaged in negotiations to acquire a 12.1 per cent stake in Luxembourg airline, Luxair.

The Swiss company, based in Basel, said in a statement that negotiations between Luxair’s major shareholders and Panalpina have reached an advanced stage.

UK/US air liberalisation in disarray

UK efforts to secure a limited liberalisation of air services with the US were in disarray on Wednesday night as Alistair Darling, UK transport secretary, bowed to heavy pressure from UK and European passenger and cargo interests opposed to any deal.

The UK transport department said the US had been told “not to expect further proposals for a few weeks.”

It said it had embarked on further analysis of the consequences for UK aviation of agreeing to a so-called “open skies” deal for air cargo services, which has been sought by the US.
