Palacio backs 'golden shares' in transport

Governments should be allowed to maintain control of privatised transport companies through “golden shares”, Europe’s transport and energy commissioner has suggested. Staying home: Integres Global Logistics

A year ago, Integres Global Logistics made a splash in the air-cargo industry by announcing that it provide small and medium shippers with global access to multiple carriers. It also said it planned to book shipments to Europe by early this year.

So far, however, Integres hasn’t moved far beyond its initial role as a domestic forwarder. The joint venture of Roadway Express, United Airlines and Unisys Corp., is attracting most of its business from Roadway Air, a subsidiary of Roadway Express.

DHL looks to Cathay for expansion in the region

DHL Worldwide Express’ expansion plans in Hong Kong, which include the lone bid for the dedicated express terminal at Chek Lap Kok, have seen the integrator start the search for a dedicated freighter fleet, according to a top executive.
John Mullen, DHL Worldwide Express (Asia-Pacific) chief operating officer, said one of the options being examined for its continuing expansion was the joint purchase with Cathay Pacific of a mid-range fleet of cargo aircraft.

Carriers Compete for Spanish Post Contract

On Friday the Spanish post office will award the 9.61m euro contract for night postal flights in 2003. Yesterday Alberto Nunez-Feijoo, chairman of the post office, announced that Air Europa, Spanair (which currently provides the service), Boreal, Farconi and Charter are competing for the contract. The contract involves aeroplanes from Santiago de Compostela, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga and Vitoria flying to Madrid airport and back again. It complements the service which the post office provides using the space reserved on Iberia flights, and strengthens the surface distribution network. The Spanish post office is currently restructuring its distribution model.
