UPS taps Manila freight carrier

United Parcel Service (UPS) says its agreement with Pacific East Asia Air Cargo Airlines (Peac) to fly between Hong Kong and the Philippines is only a temporary measure until UPS can get its own beyond rights from the SAR.
UPS signed the agreement with Peac, a sister company to Philippine Airlines under the control of controversial tycoon Lucio Tan, before opening its intra-Asia hub at the former Clark Air Base in Pampanga in April.
The agreement calls for the Philippine carrier to operate an Airbus Industrie A300 freighter for UPS six times a week, Monday to Saturday, between Clark and Hong Kong.

Wilson strengthens Nordic base with Exceed merger

6 May 2002 Wilson logistics has bought Exceed, a Swedish Air and sea freight forwarder for €17m Exceed was formed by the amalgamation of Air Cargo Express, MelAir and Speditions Service in November 2000. Exceed had a turnover of €140m and an annual loss of €2m.

Fedex flies into open skies row

Britain’s economy will suffer unless it removes restrictions on cargo flights by international airlines, Fred Smith, chairman and chief executive of FedEx, the world’s largest express air freight company, has warned. FedEx flies cargo into the UK but is prevented from picking up freight and carrying it to Europe by a 1978 air services treaty between Britain and America.

EUs De Palacio says any US-UK bilateral 'Open Skies' pact will be short-lived

European Union Transportation Commissioner Loyola de Palacio said if the US and the UK manage to come to an agreement on a bilateral “open skies” pact, the deal will be overruled by a European court later this year.
“The agreement can be signed with a clear short life,” de Palacio told reporters here ahead of the US-EU summit between European President Romano Prodi and President George Bush at the White House.
