Singapore Telecom may soon float its postal arm Singapore Post – in what could be the biggest local public float in recent times after port operator PSA Corporation and Singapore Power decided to delay their listings.
SingTel will conduct a beauty parade tomorrow for advisers on strategic options and the planned divestiture and listing of SingPost, which according to one investment banker is one of the world’s most profitable postal services.

Express-Mail firms get unlikely ally in China

Officials from China’s foreign trade ministry have emerged as unlikely allies for international express-delivery companies such as DHL Worldwide Express Ltd. and FedEx Corp., which are seeking to bolster their presence in the country. China Post, which is run by the State Postal Bureau, has presented a set of proposals that will govern the operations of foreign and domestic express companies in the country.

The Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Y. Upendra, said the postal authorities have introduced certain innovative services to provide full customer satisfaction.
The speed post, introduced several years ago, has now been oriented to ensure that customers, using web site, knew the status of articles and kept track of the despatch position.The highlights of the express parcel post, benefiting the business community and industrialists regularly sending articles by surface transport, would have standardised delivery norms. Insurance facility had also been introduced.

UPS taps Manila freight carrier

United Parcel Service (UPS) says its agreement with Pacific East Asia Air Cargo Airlines (Peac) to fly between Hong Kong and the Philippines is only a temporary measure until UPS can get its own beyond rights from the SAR.
UPS signed the agreement with Peac, a sister company to Philippine Airlines under the control of controversial tycoon Lucio Tan, before opening its intra-Asia hub at the former Clark Air Base in Pampanga in April.
The agreement calls for the Philippine carrier to operate an Airbus Industrie A300 freighter for UPS six times a week, Monday to Saturday, between Clark and Hong Kong.
