TNT maps out strategy to gain market leadership

In a bid to gain market leadership by 2005, e-logistics provider TNT has mapped out a strategy that will be dominated by strategic alliances and mergers and acquisitions. Martin Phillips, director for sales and marketing for Asia, said in an interview at the Shangri-la Hotel in Makati City, that the
company will engage in such activities to further strengthen its
hold on the market.
To gain the top position in the e-logistics market, Mr. Phillips
said that the company has to grow its courier services by 300% and
its logistics business by 1,000% in 2005.

Gov. Studying Japan Post Privatization Options

The Public Management Ministry [Japan] is studying ways to allow the planned Postal Public Corporation to own stakes in private firms by, for example, acquiring domestic and foreign trucking firms and buying stocks issued by private businesses, ministry sources said. The plan is part of efforts to set up distribution networks that will complement similar systems operated by postal offices across the country, with the aim of providing more efficient postal services.

Commission to perform duties of DG of Post Malaysia

ALL functions and duties of the Director-General of Post and the
Postal Department will be taken over by the Energy, Communications
and Multimedia Ministry and the Malaysian Communications and
Multimedia Commission. Tabling the Postal Services (Amendment) Bill 2001, Deputy Energy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho said the
ministry would handle the planning and policy-making functions and
the Commission would be empowered to perform all functions and
duties of the director- general.
