Dutch TNT and Pirelli Tyres Australia sign contract

TNT NV has won a three-year contract from tyre maker Pirelli Tyres Australia (PTA) for the provision of logistics services to Pirelli Tyres, TNT said on December 16, 2005. No financial details of the deal were provided. Under the contract, TNT’s unit TNT Logistics will provide services to Pirelli Tyres’ Australian customers from a central warehouse in Sydney and regional distribution centres in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Australia Post gets the electronic message

In a bid to counteract a drop in postal services, Australia Post is entering the digital marketplace. In 2004-05, profit from letters fell $A56.9 million, but the company is making solid gains elsewhere. It established electronic and SMS notification services for postal box holders, is researching how to use radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in the domestic marketplace and has recorded strong growth in its Electronic Data Interchange Post service, which prints, envelopes and delivers letters for bulk mail customers.

Australia Post, China Post jv plans expansion in China’s key centers

Australia Post said its recently formed international logistics joint venture with China Post is planning to open more distribution hubs in China’s key commercial and manufacturing centers after establishing the first hub in Shanghai in July. It said the joint venture company, Sai Cheng Logistics, will link the hubs to similar facilities in Australia. In its annual report, the Australian government-owned postal services and logistics company said the joint venture was formed in response to the increasing demand among Australian businesses for logistics and supply chain support in China.
