DHL is ‘here to stay‘ in New Zealand

DHL’s global chief Uwe Doerken has been visiting New Zealand to rally the troops and remind competitors that the Tasman belongs to DHL. “We’re a very important player on the transtasman and we intend to keep it this way,” he said after a presentation by the company’s regional sales team in Queenstown. The Deutsche Post unit, which runs its own aircraft between Australia and New Zealand, faces increasing competition from local companies.

DHL Global CEO optimistic about the year ahead

Despite the impact of the rising Australian dollar, global logistics company DHL Express is optimistic about its operations in Australia.

Last year, DHL posted double-digit growth and continued to snatch market share from local competitors to take a 40 per cent stake in the Australian logistics industry.

Visiting Australia for the company’s annual Asia Pacific conference, DHL Express global chief executive Uwe Rolf Doerken said the local arm was in the process of rebuilding its Sydney hub development at Sydney Airport – the cornerstone of its current domestic activity.

Qantas and Australia Post buy Star Track Express

Australia Post and Qantas have acquired express road freight operator, Star Track Express, for $750 million.

The companies said the purchase would be made through a 50:50 joint venture and funded from net cash reserves and undrawn credit facilities.
