Australia Post to charge 50 cents extra per air mail parcel

Australia Post will soon charge customers an extra 50 cents per parcel sent overseas by air mail to cover the cost of upgraded security. The price rise is planned from September 1. It covers business and private air mail and economy air mail parcels sent overseas, not letters. The hike was revealed during Senate estimate hearings this week.

Australian CCC announces final decision on reply paid mail

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission today announced its final decision not to object to Australia Post’s proposal to restructure prices for Reply Paid mail. The changes are to take effect from 1 July 2003, dependent on the deployment of a new Reply Paid computer management system. The ACCC’s decision will lead to a reduction in the price of small, barcoded Reply Paid letters. The price of large and small unbarcoded Reply Paid letters will rise.

Couriers in Australia win express race

Courier companies say they might be more expensive than Express Post but they have an important edge: late pick-up, early delivery. An experiment by The Australian last week, with three packages sent from each of three locations, showed that Australia Post’s express mail managed to either beat the competitors into the hands of the recipient — or at least tie. And at considerably lower cost. Last week’s survey of nine satchels using two private companies and Australia Post showed similar delivery times for all services regardless of price. But it used a 9am pick-up time, which TNT‘s Peter Longley believes levelled the playing field for the government service.

Deutsche Post Global Mail and DHL Worldwide Express join forces

Deutsche Post Global Mail and DHL Worldwide Express have joined forces to create an international mail service in Australia and New Zealand.

Their new international mail product for corporate accounts will be known as Global Mail Business.

Global Mail Business will be introduced in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, with other markets in the Asia Pacific region and the Middle East to follow shortly.
