Correios to invest USD38mn in internet projects

Brazil’s state-owned postal service ECT, known as Correios, plans to invest 113mn reais (today US$38mn) in three Internet projects over the next five years, on top of 37mn reais already spent, according to AE Setorial. The three projects – online shopping mall, Internet access and digital certification for tax identification numbers – should reach breakeven Correios Internet manager AntAnio de Paulo Braquehais was quoted as saying.

Brazil's BB & Post Office to offer export services online

Brazil’s Banco do Brasil (BB) signed a contract Wednesday with the country’s federal postal system ECT to sell export services to small- and mid-sized companies via the Internet, the government-controlled bank said in a statement. The two federally run entities will integrate their databases to speed up shipping of merchandise worth up to USD10,000. BB clients will be able to handle all the orders and bureaucracy over the Internet, the statement said.

TNT enters contract in Brazil with Braskem

The Dutch company TNT Logistics has recently inked a unprecedented contract in Brazil. For the first time, TNT will be responsible for the production logistics of a petrochemicals company. The company entered a deal with the Brazilian Braskem, the largest petrochemicals company in Latin America, to operate along the production chain at two units – OPP and Polialden (who produce polyethylene). TNT aims to conquer other similar contracts since it will be present at the Camacari petrochemicals complex (Bahia). To perform the logistics services, TNT will use 2.5 – 4 m tons forklift trucks and some tools developed for this means, besides hiring 100 people.

TPG wins Brazil Post contract

TPG, the Dutch mail, express and logistics company, announced that its TNT Express division has won a competitive open bid to distribute consignments sent through the new international express service of the Brazilian state post office, Empresa de Correios e Telegrafos. The contract, which will be signed shortly, is projected to generate more than USD23.5 million in revenue over five years.
