UK Mail bullish over business post gains

UK Mail predicts it will be handling nearly half a million business letters a day by the end of next month, as new customers join existing clients PowerGen and mobile phone network Singlepoint in switching their services to the private postal operator.

The company, which claims it will generate up to GBP15m worth of revenues this year from a standing start two months ago, revealed it had secured the PowerGen business this week. It is expected to handle up to 35 million items for the utility giant, mainly bills and marketing literature. UK Mail is also understood to be working for Singlepoint, which was bought by Vodafone last year, although it declined to confirm the appointment. In addition, the postal operator is believed to be targeting government agencies.

Strong start for Business Post arm UK Mail

Business Post, the express delivery company, said yesterday that trading had been “very satisfactory” so far this year, and that its new UK Mail division had got off to strong start.

Earlier this year the company struck a landmark deal with Royal Mail to use its delivery network, its first step into the UK letters business. Since May 10 Business Post has collected and sorted mail from its business customers and paid Royal Mail 13p a letter to deliver them to domestic addresses, its annual meeting was told yesterday.

A pallet network is about to be purchased by a major company, disclosed Paul Carvell, chief executive of Business Post last week. He told a Triangle express delivery conference that he had just heard that a sale was about to be announced.

Business Post set to take loads off UK roads

Express delivery company Business Post is turning to rail to escape the problems of congestion on the UK’s roads.
It has started a three-month trial using EWS’s rail express parcels service from Walsall in the West Midlands to Aberdeen, joining DHL which has been using the service since January under a three-year deal.
