Business Post Group plc Preliminary Announcement

Peter Kane, Chairman, issued the following statement. I am pleased to report another year of successful progress in line with the Three Year Plan set out in November 2001. In particular, pre-tax profit increased substantially and a strong base has been established for further profitable development. Of special note has been the further market share advances in the core Express business-to-business market, strong growth in HomeServe, operating in the business-to-consumer market, the acquisition of Weaver Pallet Express (since re-branded as UK Pallets), a significant palletised goods delivery business, and the signing of an agreement with Royal Mail which enables UK Mail, our business mail subsidiary, to commence operations. During the year, turnover increased by 23% to £192.7m (2003: £156.3m) and pperating profit before goodwill amortisation increased by 22% to £19.1m (2003: £15.6m).

Business Post bids to undercut UK Royal Mail

Business Post is introducing Letter Express, a premium mail product offering a ‘by 9am’ Monday to Saturday UK service, in direct competition with Royal Mail. Customers can obtain proof of delivery via free SMS and automated email, or at www.businesspost-biz. Business Post claims it offers a cheaper service than Royal Mail.

UK Business Post Group will deliver

City investors are slowly warming to the ground-breaking deal between Business Post Group, the parcel delivery firm headed by Paul Carvell, and the Royal Mail.

The deal, which opens up the postal network to the private sector, initially went down like a lead balloon as investors failed to work out how it would benefit BPG. The shares have dropped by about 15 per cent over the past few weeks, but now Arbuthnot, BPG’s stockbroker, has run the numbers. It says the deal should contribute to group profits by 2006, reaching pounds 12.2m by 2010 on revenues of pounds 200m – compared with BPG’s total pounds 156m turnover last year.

UK Business Post and Nightline team up

Irish parcel courier Nightline has become Business Post’s partner in the republic, operating both domestic and UK/Ireland services.
Business Post previously served County Dublin directly and used subcontractors for the other counties. Nightline also becomes the Irish partner in Business Post’s new European road service, Eurodis.
