TNT's contrarian view

While other express carriers have built airfreight networks with numerous international flights, TNT is keeping its eyes on the ground. The Dutch integrated carrier is establishing a domestic ground network based on the acquisition of a large Chinese parcel and logistics operator, Hoau Logistics Group.

Hoau, established in 1995 and based in Heilongjiang, has more than 1,100 depots in China, along with more than 3,000 trucks and 12,000 employees. This gives TNT a huge footprint in the world’s favorite growth market, but it is not an express network, admitted Marie Christine Lombard, managing director of TNT Express.

Australia's Toll Holding CEO wants slice of China's logistics market

As Toll Holdings Ltd moves to bed down its 6 bln aud-plus acquisition of stevedoring company Patrick Corp Ltd and the 1.1 bln aud acquisition of Singapore-based logistics group, Sembcorp Logistics (SembLog), Australia’s largest transport logistics group is starting to focus on China.

The group is planning to capture a big slice of the logistics business as the flow of manufactured goods from China to Australia and other parts of the Asia-Pacific region continues to grow at an unabated pace.

Fedex's Qingdao Branch starts operation

Fedex announced on July 12 that the company’s Qingdao Branch has put into operation to satisfy the rising international express service in Qingdao, a port city in east China’s Shandong Province’.

So far, Fedex has 26 branches, 38 ground workstations as well as three ports in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen cities and its service now covers 200 cities in China.

According to the plan, Fedex will extend its service network to another 100 Chinese cities in the coming five years.

Big Four Turn Cautious on China's Domestic Delivery Market

DHL, FedEx, UPS, and TNT have slowed down their expansion in the Chinese domestic delivery market these days due to high costs.

FedEx, the world’s largest express delivery company, is reported to only operate international express delivery business in China for the moment.

US-based FedEx has become the main sponsor of Chinese Badminton Team from 2006 to 2008, when members of the team would wear sports clothes with words “FedEx” when participating in international games.

A principal at the market division of FedEx’s Asia-Pacific region explained that this move was aimed to further enhance its brand recognition among Chinese small and medium customers.

Myanmar international express mail services to expand to 30 more countries

The state-run Myanmar International Express Mail Services (EMS) will expand its services to 30 more countries starting July 1, the local Weekly Eleven News reported Tuesday.

The Myanmar EMS International under the Ministry of Communications, Posts and Telegraphs is currently rendering services to 32 countries in Asia and North America.

The expansion would bring the total number of countries to where the EMS International is accessible to 62.
