FedEx establishing presence in Sichuan

The Ministry of Commerce has officially approved FedEx to set up a subsidiary in Sichuan province to engage in international express delivery. At the West China Investment Strategy Workshop with Multinationals in Jiuzhaigou in October 2005, FedEx China CEO Tian Changan expressed his confidence in the investment climate of Sichuan province and hope for stronger investment engagement with the province in a bid to extend the industrial chain and to develop modern logistics.

DHL wins 600 mln usd logistics contract for Chinese nuclear project

DHL Global Forwarding said it will provide transportation services to China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC) for the Ling Ao Nuclear Power Station project phase II development in the southern province of Guangdong.

The logistics provider said in a statement that the three year contract, which will be run by its China subsidiary Danzas ZF Freight Agency, is worth over 600 mln usd.

DHL, FedEx, UPS raise fuel surcharges in China

DHL, FedEx and UPS raise their fuel-related surcharges in China as of June, in a move to offset the increasing operational costs resulting form soaring oil prices in the international market since 2005. DHL-Sinotrans, Brussels-based DHL’s China joint venture, lifted fuel surcharges from 11.5% to 13.5% today, while the two US tycoons FedEx and UPS each announced an increase from 13.5% to a record high of 15%, which will come into effect on June 5. In stark contrast, Express Mail Service (EMS), the express service arm of state-run China Post, did not announce any markup on fuel surcharges or any change in service charges.
