DHL heavy goods express delivery to debut in China

DHL has announced that it would release a new product to provide express delivery services for heavy goods of 50 to 150 kg.
It is part of DHL’s efforts to capture a larger share when the express demand is surging in China. In China, goods heavier than 40 kg cannot be delivered through the nation’s postal system.

China Post, French CNP launch joint-venture insurance business

China Post and French CNP Assurances announced the opening of their life insurance joint venture last Friday. The newly established Sino-French Life Insurance Co., Ltd is also China’s first insurance company invested by the banking or postal sector. With a registered capital of 200 million yuan (24.9 million U.S. dollars), the joint venture is equally shared by China Post and French CNP Assurances. China’s banking and postal sector is becoming an important channel to distribute insurance products. Currently, savings banking business has accounted for half of China Post’s total business, and its income from post offices acting as insurance agents topped 22 billion yuan last year.

FedEx gains more weekly flights to China

FedEx Express will now have the rights to operate three additional weekly frequencies to China, bringing its total to 26. With these frequencies, which were awarded by the US Department of Transportation, FedEx Express will maintain its leadership position with more all-cargo flights to and from China than any other US cargo airline. “FedEx saw the promise in China more than 20 years ago. China’s role in the global marketplace continues to escalate. In fact, China is expected to be the fastest- growing market for air cargo, averaging more than 10 percent per year between 2003 and 2023,” said Michael L. Ducker, executive vice president, International for FedEx Express.

TNT opens dedicated national life science distribution centre in Shanghai

TNT today unveiled one of Asia’s most sophisticated medical logistics facilities in Shanghai, China. Constructed at a cost of 1 million Euro, the state-of-the-art facility in the WaiGaoQiao Free Trade Zone is TNT’s first dedicated Life Science National Distribution Centre (NDC) and will complement its Regional Life Science Distribution Centre (RDC) in Singapore. China to set up new body to operate postal services

China will set up a new body, to be called the State Post Group Co, this June to operate postal services, the China Business News reported, citing an unnamed insider. The State Post Group will take over postal services, including express delivery, logistics and savings, from the State Post Bureau of China. The report added that the State Post Bureau will transfer the assets of China Postal Airlines – an airlines operator – to the new group. The move is part of the ongoing restructuring of the State Post Bureau.
