Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond visited a Royal Mail plant in Glasgow on Friday to confirm that government funding for worker education programmes will continue.

Postal delivery plans axed
Royal Mail has been forced to shelve controversial plans for a single postal delivery until next year after the experiment was branded “a shambles” by the Communication Workers Union. Union representatives held a series of meetings with the Royal Mail to discuss the plans, which were supposed to save the postal service GBP350m a year. Royal Mail says the new service had suffered “teething problems”.
