State companies urged by Correo Uruguay to move on digital signatures

Uruguay’s state-owned companies must move to accept digital signatures as the fastest way to boost the transfer of electronic documents in the country, according to Fernanda Burgueno, head of electronic services at the state-owned postal service, El Correo. The postal service was the first digital certification authority in Uruguay, and began providing services in 1998, Burgueno said. Since then, the only major player to have introduced digital signatures was the central bank, which accepts digital signatures from other financial institutions, using El Correo as the third party authenticator.

Notaries and Brazil Postal Service launch online joint venture

Brazil’s association of notaries, Anoreg, has invested 4mn reais (US$1.3mn) to launch an online notary service in partnership with the country’s postal service, Empresa Brasileira de Correios, and local bank Bradesco, executives told an online press conference Thursday. Customers will file a request for a notary document – from births and marriages to property rights – through the web site (www.cartorio24horas.com.br), which is delivered by the post office to the nearest notary office, and which will post documents back to the customer. Customers will be able to monitor progress online, and the total time for certificate to be delivered is estimated to be between 4 and 9 days.

Vodafone to launch MMS Postcard service in Sweden

Vodafone Sweden, mobile operator, has signed a deal with Extrafilm to provide new multimedia content for the new MMS postcard service being offered via Vodafone Live! camera handsets. This service will allow users to create and send postcards and invitiations directly from the camera handsets. These are then sent to recipients through the standard postal service.
