DHL launches a Web Shipping booking facility

DHL has launched a Web Shipping booking facility, which allows registered customers to book a collection via the Internet, track the status of a shipment, e-mail shipment notifications and order supplies online. It is possible to store up to 300 frequently used shipment addresses.
Advice is also available on customs and duty requirements for international shipments.

FedEx web site offers customers new option

FedEx Corp., the largest overnight shipping company, introduced an Internet service to calculate foreign taxes, duties and other charges to try to lure more international shipments.
The service will let shippers avoid estimating the charges manually for 42 countries, spokesman Jesse Bunn said. Customers who don’t have to ship through FedEx pay $5 for each transaction by using the option at fedex.com, the company said. Discounts are offered for frequent shipments.

Deutsche Post restructures internet business

Deutsche Post, the German postal service operator, is restructuring its e-business division, but stresses that it does not plan to withdraw from internet activities. The company plans to dispose of any e-business activities not expected to break even within two years, a buyer is sought for the shopping portal Evita, while subsidiaries E-Post and Deutsche Post Com are to be integrated into the group’s letter division. Negotiations with potential bidders for Evita are reported to be showing sluggish progress, however.

DPWN Wants Partner for eVITA Shopping

Deutsche Post Management said that it was looking for a strategic partner for eVITA, the group’s internet shopping portal, and added that it did not rule out a sale of the operations. Deutsche Post stressed that online activities such as ePost and Deutsche Post Com had already been integrated into the group’s letter division.
