TNT Express Services opens new UK midland centre

Delivery group TNT Express Services is creating up to 120 new jobs following a GBP1.5 million investment in a new call centre at Lount in Leicestershire The company, which claims to be the fastest and most reliable business-to-business express courier service in the UK, is gearing up to cope with rising numbers of calls from customers.

The new complex is working in tandem with an existing TNT call centre in Atherstone, Warwickshire, to meet growing demand from businesses wanting to use the company’s national and international services.

DHL opens new Mexican gateway

With an investment of USD6,000, the DHL Internacional de Mexico logistics and package delivery company has inaugurated its gateway, with which it will strengthen its presence in the interior of the country, as well as its connections with the US and Canada. The gateway is expected to generate a turnover of USD6mil per year and to create 200 direct and indirect jobs. DHL has a market share of around 35% in Mexico, and plans to increase the flow of incoming packages by around 170 as well as significantly reducing both arrival and departure times.

Fury after Parcelforce’s highland concession

Parcelforce is to scrap its extra charge for deliveries to the Highlands from anywhere in Scotland – but it has decided against extending the concession to deliveries from England and those to the islands.

The limited concession followed a year-long review and is to apply from late this summer. It was greeted with widespread disappointment.

It means deliveries from the main postal catalogue suppliers in England will still cost more, and many will continue to pass on the delivery premium.

DHL Threatens to Quit Brussels

DHL, the express subsidiary of DPWN, has threatened to move its European hub from Brussels if plans for its growth are not approved by the Belgian authorities. Such a move would bring about the loss of 3,000 existing and up to 9,000 future jobs making the decision politically explosive. At present there is a cap on night flights in and out of the airport and the Belgian government is committed to retaining this level due to pressure from local residents. The Belgian government is expected to discuss the issue this week.

TNT renews contract with Rolls-Royce, extends contract with Courts

Rolls Royce has awarded TNT Logistics a five-year contract to manage and control the inbound material flow of aerospace parts from 110 suppliers, based predominantly in the UK, mainland Europe and the USA. Courts has extended its contract with TNT Network Logistics to include the storage and handling of its leather upholstery range from its largest supplier in southern Italy.
