FedEx announces US rate increases

FedEx Corp. is raising its rates for air and ground shipments, effective Jan 5.

FedEx Express, the company’s cargo carrier, will boost rates an average of 2.5 percent for domestic and foreign shipments, the Memphis-based package delivery company announced. FedEx Ground domestic rates will increase an average of 1.9 percent. The move follows a similar announcement last month from UPS, FedEx’s chief rival.

Pressicion and Parceline liason

Printing company Pressicion, part of the Adare Group, and Parceline joined forces to successfully manage Abbey’s business relaunch. The companies’ contract demanded total accuracy and timely liaison – 27,500 parcels had to be delivered to 900 different destinations within a three hour window. The relaunch had to be kept secret until the morning of the announcement.

Deutsche Post plans to close depots

Deutsche Post, the German postal service, is planning to merge the depots of Deutsche Post Express, its subsidiary which provides courier services, with those of DHL, the express service which it recently acquired. The plans form part of the programme introduced by Klaus Zumwinkel, the head of Deutsche Post, with the aim of increasing the company’s annual profit by at least 1.4bn euros in comparison with 2002 by 2005.
