Emirates Post and Deutsche Post cement strategic alliance

The new agreement between Emirates Post and Deutsche Post supports and underpins the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2003. “Our strategic alliance with Deutsche Post embraces several business areas, including mail consolidation through the GLOBALMATCH network of hubs, a concept that is transforming mail logistics globally,” said Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General, Emirates Post. “We are an active member of this network and are keen to take this relationship further by promoting GLOBALMATCH, a dynamic new concept that is helping postal operators achieve savings in time and money, while at the same time introducing automation, speed and tracking facility in mail delivery operations. We are positive the new agreement will lead to further gains on both sides and strengthen this crucial partnership.”

UK courier service will deliver passports

New passports will be delivered by secure courier from February in a effort to reduce the 3,000 which go missing each year, the Home Office said.

The UK Passport Service (UKPS) has signed a contract with Special Mail Services Ltd for the six million deliveries a year.

Some high risk areas – such as inner city postcodes – will require a signature on delivery.

DHL's Kuala Lumpur Gateway gets class

DHL says it has obtained an Asia Category ‘A’ certification from the Technology Asset Protection Association (TAPA) for its Kuala Lumpur International Airport Gateway (KLIA Gateway).

TAPA is a non-profit organisation set up by representatives from the manufacturing and high-tech industries, freight forwarders and professional consulting companies. It was established to guarantee high security standards in the freight transportation of high-value technology products to minimise monetary or asset losses incurred due to theft during the shipment process.

The TAPA certification at DHL’s KLIA Gateway is the 21st successful TAPA certification for DHL worlwide.

Air Hong Kong eyes mainland routes

Air Hong Kong, the all-cargo airline owned by Cathay Pacific Airways and DHL, is eyeing express cargo and freighter routes to the mainland.

Air Hong Kong commercial general manager James Tong said: “We are actively looking at the mainland. We are evaluating and studying very closely with DHL and freight forwarders what kind of cargo volumes would be carried.” About 80% of the carrier’s cargo volumes are express shipments from DHL, which owns a 40% stake in Air Hong Kong.
