Nightspeed independence leads to expansion

120 jobs are set being created by Nightspeed Secure Worldwide Express after it gained its independence from Group 4.

Tipton-based Nightspeed is boosting its 1,200-strong workforce with a £250,000 investment to add three new UK depots.

The major expansion, which includes new sites at Plymouth, Southampton and Warrington, is a massive show of confidence in the business following its management buy-out for an undisclosed sum earlier this year.

Deutsche Post plans to expand collection boxes to parcels

Deutsche Post, the German postal service, is planning to expand its new ‘Packstation’ system, which involves a network of collection boxes for parcels, located in petrol stations and supermarkets. Recipients are informed by e-mail or text message when a parcel has arrived, and can collect their package at any time of the day or night using a customer number and a personal code. There are currently 75 of these boxes in Germany, and Deutsche Post is hoping to raise the number to 650 in 2004.

TNT Express launches new road services to Serbia

TNT Express has announced a further expansion to its European Road Network (ERN). They are now offering a new daily service to Belgrade, Serbia which becomes the 32nd country to join the ERN. The route connects the Serbian capital to the other 31 countries and 522 depots in the ERN via major hubs in Vienna and Timisoara.

Parceline has extended the range of items that customers can swap using its one-to-one exchange service, swapit. Items that can be replaced via swapit now include computer monitors, DVD players, vacuum cleaners and telephone handsets. Through Parcelines swapit, the replacement is delivered and the original item collected in one single transaction.

DHL launches courier service for students in India

DHL Express has launched a new courier service, University Express, to serve Indian students applying for higher studies overseas. DHL has provided 50 percent discount on each application sent overseas and has come up with the facility of picking up the documents from homes, hostels or colleges free of cost. India has the distinction of having the second highest number of students studying abroad with about 20,000 students applying every year for qualifying exams like Graduate Record Examination, Graduate Management Aptitude Test and SAT.
