GLS France launches Global Business-Parcel

Since the beginning of July GLS France offers the Global Business-Parcel. This new product allows shipment to 50 additional destinations, thus rising to 85 the number of countries delivered around the world. Delivery times vary from 4 to 10 days, according to the country.

This product allows GLS France customers to export their parcels to the main countries around the world, receiving national, European and global services from one hand. Among the new countries served are the USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, India, Taiwan, China, Japan, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Maghreb countries and French overseas departments and territories (DOM-TOM).

To accompany its customers in the specific management of their international shipments and accelerate deliveries, the clearance through customs is included in its offer.

With the Global Business-Parcel, the harmonized operational processes and the interconnected IT systems allow a high level of security to customers in their shipment throughout the world. The shipment tracking, according to GLS standards, offers regular information on parcel position.

Parcels are collected according to usual conditions: collection times are defined within a common agreement, in order to respect the activity and process of each customer.

This service has no minimum shipment volume. The only requirement is to open a Global Business-Parcel dedicated account with GLS approving the specific sales conditions. As a complement of the product and service range, this product will be proposed as a complementary offer to existing deliveries in France and/or in Europe.

Mediaservis: leading challenger to Czech Post

With the postal service market set to open up, Mediaservis is positioning itself to wrap up a bigger chunk of the mail delivery market. And more than just junk mail is at stake.

The Czech postal services market is the most open and developed within the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region, yet rivals of traditional public operators are awaiting full liberalization of the European Union postal market, says Jaroslav Aujezdský, CEO of Mediaservis, an alternative competitor to domestic state-run post office Èeská pošta (ÈP).

Mediaservis is closely monitoring the liberalization process and will be prepared to meet all the conditions when the market is fully liberalized, and be able to provide delivery of mail under 50 grams, or under Kè 18 (EUR 0.65) in the Czech Republic, Aujezdský said.

Currently, Mediaservis has about a 20 percent market share of approximately 1 billion addressed mail items including letters, direct mail, newspapers and magazines sent every year. “We want to enter the segment of delivery of letters under 50 grams, which represents about 65 percent of all the letters that we cannot deliver at the moment although we are capable of doing it,” Aujezdský said. The 65 percent represents mainly the business-to-business (B2B) and the business-to-customer (B2C) market. Some 90 percent of European mail is from businesses, and this is where most new rivals are likely to target new lower-priced services, according to the European
Commission (EC).

Mediaservis was established in 1999 with the aim of providing a morning delivery service mainly for publishing houses. At that time the only operator ÈP offered late morning delivery of periodicals on weekdays, and no service on Saturdays.

UPS competitor FedEx has a similar service, FedEx Custom Critical.

Urgent shipping customers can use the single-point system whether they”re using UPS SonicAir, UPS Airlines or UPS Freight.

FedEx delivers to more than 45,000 Emirates Skywards members

FedEx Express recently transported more than 45,000 shipments across the world to members of Skywards, Emirates Airlines’ award-winning Customer Loyalty program.

The express delivery giant’s unmatched global transportation network, spanning more than 220 countries and territories, made the dispatch of the Skywards’ information packs and gift items simple.

‘FedEx has been managing the transportation of Skywards’ premium member gifts for the past six years. We have a dedicated team of couriers and service agents who were located within Emirates facility during the peak shipping period to ensure that the 45,000 shipments were processed accurately and on time,’ said Hamdi Osman, senior vice president, FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.

The Skywards program allows members to earn Skywards Miles that can be redeemed for a wide range of rewards. Members receive gifts and updated information brochures outlining promotions, members’ current mileage status, and programme details for the rest of the year.

A key to the success of the peak shipping period is Skyward’s use of FedEx Ship Manager. This automated shipping solution allows for the import of large external address databases which can then be easily transferred to FedEx shipping documents. This software is available to all FedEx customers, whether they ship just 1 shipment a year or up to 10,000 per day.
