DHL to open Express Center at Keio Plaza H

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, will open a new package drop-off center, DHL Shinjuku Digital Oasis Keio Plaza Express Center, on April 1.

The result of a joint effort by DHL Express Japan and Digital Oasis Inc., a pioneer of “coin-operated business centers”, which provide convenient services for business travelers, this new Express Center is strategically located at Keio Plaza Hotel, a convenient location in the heart of Shinjuku Fukutoshin — an area with numerous businesses, boutiques and administrative facilities, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Tower. The Keio Plaza Express Center is a 5-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, making it easy for customers to drop off and pick up shipments on their way to work or while shopping. For these reasons, DHL Shinjuku Digital Oasis Keio Plaza is expected to meet the growing demand for convenient package and document mailing services.

With this latest facility, DHL Japan now has 59 bases nationwide where customers can bring in their parcels for shipment.

DHL shifts Asian flight to March

DHL’s cargo hub at March GlobalPort has gone international, the courier company has announced.

DHL has routed a new flight into March from Malaysia, by way of Hong Kong and Anchorage, Alaska, said spokesman Richard Gibb. The first flight touched down Tuesday just after midnight.

The other seven DHL flights that land at March are from locations within the United States.

Gibb said the shifting of the flight to March from Los Angeles International Airport will get deliveries from Asia into the company’s distribution network 90 minutes sooner, which will result in shorter door-to-door delivery times.

The GlobalPort operation, Gibb said, serves Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. The company employs about 350 people at March, he said.

DHL calls March an international gateway operation and says it has spent USD3 million on improvements there, adding on-site offices specifically to provide customs-processing and clearance functions needed for international shipments.

The company expects to see more business come through March in the future as trade between the United States and Asia results in many shipments being routed through the Inland region.

The courier opened for business at the March location in 2005. It also takes in international flights at Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, New York and Wilmington, Ohio.
