Boeing to supply six 767 freighters to re-fleet DHL U.S. Operations

Boeing and DHL agreed on an order for six 767-300ER (Extended Range) Freighters. DHL, wholly owned by Bonn, Germany-based Deutsche Post World Net, is a leading international express delivery and logistics company. The order is valued at USD 894 million at list prices. This order has previously been accounted for on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries Website.
“Adding the wide-body 767 Freighter to our network allows us to grow our business considerably,” said John Mullen, CEO DHL Express. “This acquisition will support the DHL Express strategy with particular emphasis on renewing and updating the network supporting operations that serve the U.S. market.” DHL has successfully established a solid number 3 market position in the U.S. and is striving to expand its overall leadership in the global express business.

Logistics World Alliance takes off 16 March 2007

Logistics World Alliance, the alternative pan-European Contract Logistics provider, brings Geis Group and Log Service Europe into its membership, providing logistics services in Germany, Central and Eastern Europe and Italy respectively. Bibby Distribution, a founding member of Logistics World Alliance, thus strengthens its presence in Europe.

Russett back as MD in Palletline network

Bob Russett is back in the industry full-time, taking 100% control of a Birmingham freight firm and buying a warehouse in Telford.

Russett bought out the other three founder shareholders of Palletline Distribution, the Palletline Network member based at the West Midlands hub. Selling their shares are; Ken Hackling, who has his own transport business; and Colin Sturgess and John Watt, who had their own transport firms but have retired from the industry.

Russett becomes full-time managing director of Palletline Distribution, which he says has offered very limited storage hitherto. There is room to expand at Telford, he adds.

PalletFORCE has been helping UNICEF with the Blue Peter Shoe Biz Appeal to raise funds for children in Malawi

PalletFORCE has lent its assistance to UNICEF for the palletised distribution of donations to the Blue Peter Shoe Biz charity appeal.

UNICEF was introduced to PalletFORCE when the charity was trying to find a courier to collect some new shoes which were donated by a viewer. The Network agreed to collect the larger, more unique donations UNICEF had been receiving free of charge, such as new shoes donated by manufacturers.

“UNICEF will be continuing to work with PalletFORCE to complete these collections for the duration of the Blue Peter Shoe Biz Appeal and is extremely grateful to all staff and members for their ongoing support,” comments UNICEF spokesperson Vicky Edmonds.

The Blue Peter Shoe Biz appeal will be raising money to help the many orphans and other children made vulnerable because of HIV and AIDS in Malawi. UNICEF is proud to have been selected as the Blue Peter charity partner for 2006/2007.

UPS and U.S. Department of Commerce team up

United Parcel Service Inc. and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Service announced an initiative aimed at increasing exports from U.S.-based small and medium-sized businesses.

With the agreement, Atlanta-based UPS joins a pool of businesses the Commercial Service can call on to provide services to its clients, said Malcolm Berkley, a Washington, D.C.-based public relations manager for UPS.

The Commercial Service has more than 250 branches in 78 countries. Its employees provide market research, counseling and matchmaking assistance to businesses interested in exporting goods. It provided services to 69,000 U.S. businesses in 2006, Berkley said.
